Pining Abundance

Pining Abundance

The air is cold, yet crisp and alive with vitalizing sensation.  The wood shed is my proposed destination, in my quest to prepare for this evenings warmth and comfort from the direct exposure of a blazing nights sky.  However, sounds of curious chatter catch my attention through the air and halt my steps to a quiet and contemplative halt.  Red breasted nuthatches dance and flit upon the limbs of a ponderosa pine tree as if to show me the sensual nature of the pine cones they were tending.  Little minuscule crispy critters are on the menu as if they were the newest and tastiest morsel.

I had to drop my preconceived plans and preparations to run for the camera that I have been neglecting.  I haven’t taken pictures of birds in perpetual motion for some time.  It was as if they were whispering, “follow us,” and learn to flow from one feeling to the very next feeling in a grand precession of everlasting abundance.  “Look more closely and carefully.” And amidst the free wheeling excitement, pygmy nuthatches entered upon my radar scene, showing me that to be small is but an illusion.  Everything within the scope of the entire picture is talking with and working effortlessly and joyfully with one another.  No influence is left behind.  All of Nature has its voice where its presence is felt and utilized.

Mountain Chickadees are the next momentous wave to greet me and move me upon these shifting winds of wisdom.  The chickadee’s seemed to be happily cleaning and scratching and relieving the subtle itching of this grand conifer as they probed the depths of a seemingly unseen world.  They are attentive to the needs of the tree and the tree is attentive to the needs of the birds.  They are in communion with one another.  One proclaims with glee its joy to the others in this collective community about having found the perfect jewel to be adorned and worn within.

Then from the blue sky, unopened pine cones are sent crashing to the ground.  A harvest is being prepared by a busy red squirrel.  This towering tree is marveling with productivity and abundance.  Suddenly, and emerging from nowhere in utter surprise, a squadron of Clark’s Nutcrackers flies just over my head to show me the fruits of their labor.  Pine nuts are being gathered with great zest and enthusiasm upon this sunny morning setting of localized mountain vistas.  I can sense smiles on their faces from the tops of their world as if they were thankful for each of their ongoing close encounters.  Yet nothing was alienated.  So I too became thankful for this fearless display of personal grandeur as the entire front yard was busy with life and out-right living.

Then I too smiled as the entire flock of birds took their leave of me to continue their epic journey within all that is truly green in the grandest celebration of our ongoing and evolving Nature.  Thank you birds for showing me how to fly, and how to make this next moment in the world the scenic wonder that it amazingly Is.
