I really do not know Jeffrey why this chipmunk was losing its hair... all i can say is that i see a good hand full of deformities out in nature... many birds with malformed beaks... birds with something like vitaligo.. losing their pigmentation.... its a true mystery with endless speculation...

  3. It is dermatophytosis, a skin fungal infection which causes the hairs to become brittle and fall out. Most chippies recover and regrow their fur. It is not to be confused with "ringworm", which is another dermatophytosis caused by a skin fungus. :)

  4. Also, "losing pigmentation" is leucism, which can be spontaneous, but can also be caused by a lysine deficiency. :)
